A. GAINES
M.A.I. Foundation board member Dr. David Gaines has been a band director at Massapequa High School for the past 16 years. During that time, his ensembles have routinely performed at a high level of achievement. He also runs the chamber winds program a Massapequa High School, which has performed such repertoire as Strauss Serenade for Winds and Gounod Petit Symphonie. Dr. Gaines has received degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Queens College, George Mason University, and Columbia University.
His specialties include wind conducting and instrumental music education. He has also taught both undergraduate and graduate music education courses at Queens College. Dr. Gaines is an active NYSSMA member and currently serves as a major ensembles, all-state and regular brass adjudicator, NYSSMA Manual Band, and Wind Ensemble chair. He has also assisted in the training of new brass adjudicators. Since 1999 Dr. Gaines has developed the college-level music history curriculum at Massapequa H. S. as part of the Secondary Collegiate Articulated Learning Experience (S.C.A.L.E.) program, administered under the cooperative aegis of Long Island University / C.W. Post Campus.
